Girls Lacrosse Wins Section Championship

The Rye Girls lacrosse team secured the Section 1 Class C championship last Thursday with a 10-6 win over Hen Hud. The game was close with a score of 3-3 with six minutes left in the first half. Rye scored two quick goals to end the half and pulled away from there. Rye was lead by Amanda Hartzell and Margaret Mitchell who had three goals each. Mitchell, a junior, scored her 100th career goal in the game. Leah Kenny had two goals while Paige Drago had one goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Amelia Cunningham played very solid in net with six saves.

Junior Lainie Agosta said, “It was a really good team win. We’re happy to be section champs but now we’re focused on the next round.”

Manager Will Tepedino said, “This team has worked so hard and is having a great season. Hopefully their success continues.”

Next up for girls lacrosse is regionals. Their opponent is to be determined.
