The Rye Varsity Baseball Team won their league on Monday, winning in walk off fashion when Dusty Mion hit a shot into the gap, scoring Matt Bruno from second. The game was a pitchoff, as both teams had their pitchers throw 7 innings, both with shutouts going into the 8th. Freshman, Sean Thompson, went 7 2/3 with no runs allowed, until he ran out of pitches. His performance allowed Rye the ability to get their bats going late, and carried the team to victory.

Sean Thompson’s stellar performance showed he could be an ace for Rye as he gets older, as he is already one of the team’s best pitchers at 14.

Junior, Carl Freidrich said, “Sean’s a beast.”

The team will lose many of their top players at the end of this year, including but not limited to Matt Bruno, Dusty Mion, Miles Burbank, and James Laverty. The Garnets hope to win deep into the season, before they lose a handful of their top players, and hopefully bring back a title to Rye.
