Rye Lacrosse has headed into playoffs riding a long winning streak. Following their heartbreaking loss to Iona Prep on April 21st in which they gave up ten unanswered goals to blow a 12-3 lead, Rye has not lost since. They’re currently sitting at 13-3 and hold the two-seed in Class B trailing only local powerhouse Yorktown. They’re currently ranked seventh in the LoHud power-rankings for all of Section One.

The difference for Rye has been defense. Owen Hull, Davis Ross, and Zack Samberg have become significantly more physical and are punishing any opposing attackmen that try to get to the goal. The play of freshman goalie Emmet Carroll has been incredible. Paired with a solid defense, Carroll has come up with many game changing saves against Scarsdale, Harrison, and others.

Junior, Davis Ross said, “We’ve become much better as a unit this year. Everyone’s been stepping up lately”

Rye’s offense has also elevated their play over the last few weeks. The offense has put up an absurd amount of goals: Most notably, they scored twenty-one against Eastchester, sixteen against Byram, and fifteen against Harrison. Will Hynson, Teddy Acquilino, Billy Chabot, Ryan Kirkpatrick, and Brendan Dugan have been unstoppable as of late. Peter Chabot has also dominated the faceoff X giving Rye’s offense more chances to score.

Up next for Rye is the first round of the playoffs Saturday against Greeley. Greely is an up-and-coming team with a new coach that is looking for a program defining win by knocking off Rye. If Rye beats Greeley, that would most likely set up a semi-final match up with John Jay. Rye would be out for revenge after John Jay knocked them out of the playoffs last season.

Billy Chabot said, “Greeley is our next opponent so that’s all we’re focused on right now. We can’t think too far into the future because if we lose we’re going home.”
