Freshman Joci Stone is new to the Garnet community this year after living in China her entire life. After playing for her school’s tennis team in China throughout middle school, Joci joined Rye High School’s Varsity tennis team in the Fall. She played third doubles with senior, Isabel Abt. The Journal News named Joci and Isabel the top 3rd doubles team in Section 1 after their outstanding season. Joci was named All League and played in the Conference Tennis Tournament.

As the only freshmen on the tennis team, Joci’s energy and enthusiasm were part of the team’s cohesive dynamic. “She is always so full of energy and always found ways to make everyone laugh. I think she’ll have a great HS tennis career”, said senior Sara Buffone.

“She’s the promising “future of Rye tennis”, said senior Nicole Vereczkey.

“I think Joci had a great season and made some  friends along the way. It was a nice introduction to RHS. One day she had a fluent conversation in Mandarin with the Woodruff’s father while watching her teammate’s match that blew everyone away. It was impressive.” said her tennis and squash coach Tony Campbell.

This winter Joci is adding to her racket skills giving squash a try on the Girls JV Black squash team while still playing USTA tennis on weekends. Additionally, Joci puts her bilingual skills to use on Sunday mornings teaching Mandarin to elementary school students at White Plains High School.
