Are the Knicks not terrible?

Charlie Abt

Coming into the season, there was pretty much no hope for the Knicks, and everyone just assumed they were going to be terrible again. Their season started off like that also with back to back blowout losses. However, the Knicks have been playing really well since then, going 5-1, with four of their wins coming against teams likely to make the playoffs, including a 20 point victory of the reigning two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks are beginning to play defense, and it is correlating into wins for them. Julius Randle is playing like an early-season MVP candidate. Randle playing this way is very surprising, especially considering many Knicks fans wanted him gone, and he was a black hole on offense since he didn’t pass the ball. Undoubtedly, the two people most responsible for the Knicks early season start and Julius Randle and Head Coach Tom Thibodeau. The Knicks have also played excellent defense so far this year, which is no surprise given that Thibodeau’s teams have always been known to be strong defensive units. While we don’t know whether Randle and the Knicks will be able to keep this up, it is certainly very encouraging for the franchise’s future.
