Can the Giants make the playoffs?

Charlie Abt

Despite being 3-7, the New York Giants are only a half-game out the division lead. They play in perhaps the worst division of all time. It is possible that the division winner only wins six games and then also get to host a playoff game. Nevertheless, someone has to win the division, and there is no reason why the Giants cannot do it. When I looked at their schedule, I saw three games that they would realistically win, and it would not be a significant upset. Those three games are against the Bengals, Cowboys, and Browns. The game against the Browns is the one I have the least amount of confidence in them winning, but I think the Browns are overrated as they only have one win vs. a team with a winning record, the Colts. The Giants also have, in my opinion, the best defense in the division, and it has kept them in many games this year. The Giants have been very competitive this year as only two of their seven losses were by more than one score, and both of those were in September. In their last six games, they are 3-3, with those three losses coming by a combined six points. Daniel Jones has also begun to play well and has zero turnovers in his last two games, both wins for the Giants. As for the rest of the teams in the division, they just aren’t good and all play behind inconsistent, at best, quarterbacks. The Eagles have had plenty of injuries, especially on offense, but that doesn’t change the fact that Carson Wentz is just not the player he used to be and is holding them back. Unfortunately for them, he is also the best option, and if he could somehow turn it around, then the Eagles would instantly be the favorites to win the division, but with the way he has played this year, I just don’t see that happening. The Washington Football team is just not very good, they have a defense that has the potential to be good, especially on the defensive line, but they just don’t have an offense capable of putting up the points it takes to win. Lastly, the Cowboys lost star quarterback Dak Prescott earlier in the season. The QB position has been a revolving door since, mainly due to his replacement, Andy Dalton suffered a concussion and was diagnosed with COVID-19. Their defense has also been horrendous this year but has played a little better than late, but they have the worst defense in the division. They have one huge advantage over every other team, they by far the easiest schedule with likely five winnable games left. The Giants are the most well-rounded team in the division and are currently playing like the division’s best team. In my opinion, they should be considered the favorite to win it; however, all four teams have a chance, and in all likelihood, it will come down to week 17.
