Hamilton On Disney Plus

Hamilton On Disney Plus

Talia Gardner

Like myself, many people went through “Hamilton Phases” when the play first came out. In eighth grade I seriously don’t think there was anything else I listened to. Like many other people, I thought the play was a work of art. After I saw it on Broadway, all I wanted to do was watch it over and over again. During the midst of Lockdown, when Disney Plus announced they were going to add Hamilton, it brightened my mood instantly. After the play came out on Disney Plus, I gathered many thoughts about it. First of all, the production was amazing. When I saw the show on Broadway, I didn’t see the Original Broadway cast. It was really amazing to see Lin Manuel Miranda.  Although I thought that the man who played Hamilton in the cast I saw was great, it was cool to see the original broadway cast. Another thing  I noticed was that when I saw Hamilton for the first time, I thought it was really cool and loved the music, but I don’t think I fully understood it.  After taking APUSH last year, now, I can appreciate and understand the songs and their significance in history. The lyrics are truly a work of art and can portray history so accurately. When watching it on Disney Plus I often found myself being like “OH now that makes sense.” It’s great because you can actually visualize the content taught in history class instead of just reading about it. Hamilton coming out on Disney Plus was a smashing success because universally, the world loved it, however not everyone could go see it on broadway. Being able to stream the show from your home has gotten many more people on the Hamilton bandwagon. I’ve had many friends tell me that I was right to obsess over the show when it first came out, because it is amazing.
