KUWTK is ending: here are my thoughts

Talia Gardner

After fourteen years and twenty seasons of E! Network’s hit show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian has announced the show’s ending on an instagram post. Kim posted: “It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”..we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children.”   I, along with so much of the world, am saddened, but not shocked.  As the Kardashians grew a bigger platform, I along with  many other fans, noticed the women lose passion in the show. I imagine that having every conversation and vacation and even meal recorded for fourteen years must be exhausting.

Many critics of the Kardashians will label the women as talentless. People think the women are only famous because of their appearance. This may be how the sisters rose to fame. However, with this platform, all of them used it to create globally successful companies. As the show has progressed, fans have watched the characters turn into international stars. With their start of companies such as Good American jeans, Poosh, Kylie Skin, Kylie Cosmetics, KKW Beauty, Kendall&Kylie, Skims, and more. I truly believe that the women have changed the industry of modern day fashion and cosmetics. For example, Khloe Kardashian’s Good American Jeans brand fits every single body type. Whether short, tall, petite, or  plus size. Many reviews claim that Good American Jeans are the first pair that actually fit them as they please. Because of the inevitable attention that any of the Kardashian/ Jenner brands will get because of their name, they could do pretty much anything and people would buy it. However, I think it’s important to recognize that Khloe Kardashian used this to create a brand that would make all shapes and sizes feel comfortable and confident, despite their body type.

I wonder what the ending of the show means for the Kardashians. Though it may sound silly, I do believe the show and the Kardashians themselves have had a huge impact on reality TV, the media, fashion, and cosmetics. When asked about the ending of the show, fellow fan, Owen Nguyen stated, “I think we can all agree that, although the show lacked substance and fell off towards the end, we got some iconic pop culture moments from KUWTK. When Kim lost her diamond earring in the ocean, and Kourtney told her ‘There’s people that are dying.’ When Khloe went to jail, and Kris had to ask Kim to stop taking selfies on the way there. Or, most memorable of all, when Kim told Kourtney ‘you’re the least interesting to look at.’ Without them, we may never have willingly bruised our lips by sucking on a water bottle in middle school, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

Will the ending of the show cause the sisters to lose their relevance? Or will the ending of the show give the family more time to pursue their passions and companies and further expand their empire?  It’s hard to tell, however I think it is safe to say that for the time being, the women will all stay successful. But what about the fans?! Watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians every week has been my guilty pleasure for  years. Even watching the family do practically nothing is interesting. That being said, I hope the women continue to share their lives via other platforms such as instagram stories and youtube videos, as some of them have. All of my fellow fans of Keeping Up With The Kardashians will miss the show deeply!
