Impact of Sunday's NFL injuries.

Sunday saw plenty of star players come down with season-ending injuries, with the biggest names falling to the injury being New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, both of whom tore their ACLs. There were also plenty of injuries that will cause some players to miss multiple weeks such as Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey, who suffered a high ankle sprain that will keep him out four-six weeks.

The 49ers were certainly the team hit the hardest by injuries this past weekend as they lost running back Raheem Mostert to an MCL sprain, the aforementioned Bosa, defensive end Solomon Thomas who, like Bosa, also tore his ACL. Starting quarterback Jimmy Garropolo suffered a high-ankle sprain and could be out multiple weeks. They are also currency without star cornerback Richard Sherman and star tight end Geroge Kittle, though both could be back within the next few weeks. The 49ers, who are the reigning NFC champions, will need to get Mostert and Garropolo back soon if they want to contend for the NFC West division title, as that appears to be the toughest division in football this year.

The injuries to Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey won’t have a tremendous effect on the landscape of the NFC since neither team is off to a good start, nor are they expected to compete this year. Fantasy football players were certainly not happy about their injuries, especially considering they were the consensus number one and number two overall picks this year.

The Denver Broncos were also hit hard by the injury bug, as they lost promising second-year quarterback Drew Lock to an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder. They also lost their best offensive player, wide receiver Courtland Sutton to a torn ACL. They were already without their best overall player in Von Miller who is already out for the season following ankle surgery. The most significant of these has to be the injury to Drew Lock since the Broncos were hoping he would take that next step and show them that he is their franchise quarterback.

The 49ers are clearly the team most impacted for this season, and they will need plenty of players to step up if they want to make the playoffs this year, especially in the tough NFC West.
