A Deep Dive into Chocolate Chip Cookies

A Deep Dive into Chocolate Chip Cookies

Abby Bozek

No matter your age, gender, race, or dietary restrictions one statement stands a fact: everyone loves chocolate chip cookies. Because of this, many different individuals have found their own recipes which they claim superior. And as someone who likes to bake, I’ve found myself asking many different recipe- related questions. Which one do I use? Should I brown my butter? When I tell you I’ve tried some crazy recipes, I mean it. I’ve used bread flour, browned my butter, and even put espresso powder into the cookie. Yet I still find myself without one recipe that tops all others.

When I was introduced to the Deep Dive Project, I knew that this would be the time where I could test the question of which recipe is truly the best. As well as this, if you don’t want to bake where can you buy the best cookie? What even is the history of the chocolate chip cookie? All of these questions will be answered and more when I take a deep dive into chocolate chip cookies.

Now you may be asking yourself, how am I picking the recipes to test if there truly are so many? I will be going to the “big” baking website and picking out their top-rated recipes. This means Buzzfeed (otherwise known as Tasty), Allrecipes, Sally’s Baking Addiction, The New York Times, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart, Betty Crocker, and we’re going to throw in pre-made Pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough. These recipes will go head to had, being judged by my family members and peers. A bracket, which is visible below, explains which recipes will be going at it first (feel free to use this bracket for your personal guesses). Only the best will win.
