On Thursday, May 30, the Rye Girls Lacrosse season ended in the Sectional Finals against John Jay. In our regular season, we lost to John Jay by 12 goals, so the odds were in their favor as we headed into the game. They may have thought it would be a breeze, but it wasn’t. We refused to give them an easy win. In the beginning of the game, we were up 3-1, and this shocked John Jay as much as it shocked us. As the game approached halftime, the game was tied 3-3. Throughout the game, it was relatively even in terms of goal scoring until John Jay had a push in the second half and went up 7-4. This was where our fight was put to the test because we were scared they were going to keep going and make it a 12 goal difference like the regular season game. But we fought back and tied the game 7-7 at the end of the game. With one minute left, one John Jay girl cut in the front of the goal and got a shot off and scored to bring John Jay ahead 8-7. With 40 seconds left, we needed the draw, but John Jay’s draw player was really good, and she got the ball to stall the game out and ultimately win. Although this was a very tough loss for everyone on the team, there were no regrets about not working hard enough or making to many mistakes. This game was a great game for our team because we were united on and off the field. Even though we lost, and we are losing amazing seniors, I’m very excited for next season and we are even more determined to win the section. With our last game’s performance, I am confident that this can and will happen.
