Trump designates Elite Iranian Military Group as Terrorist Organization

This past week, President Trump declared the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, an elite unit with connections in many parts of Iranian politics, to be a terrorist organization, as he alleges that not only is Iran a state that sponsors terrorism but the IRGC directly engages in mass terror. This is a very risky move, as the Iranian government has responded by vowing to designate the US military as a terrorist organization as well.

The IRGC has been involved in both protecting the Ayatollah at all costs (with loyalty only to him), but they also are heavily involved in fighting on Iran’s behalf throughout the Middle East. This is an escalation of tensions between the two nations that have continued to rise since Trump pulled out of the 2015 Nuclear Treaty.
