NHL Draft Lottery Preview, Top Prospects

Chris Urban, Editor

Tuesday April 9th marks the date where the NHL’s top prospects learn their new destinations and unexpected teams rocket up the draft board. This years draft features two elite prospects that can instantly make a profound impact on an NHL team.

USA Hockey National Team Development Programs’s (NTDP) Jack Hughes and Turun Palloseura’s (TPS) Kaapo Kakko are in a battle for the respective number one overall selection. At 5’10 161 pounds, Hughes has racked up 86 points (23G, 63A) in 41 NTDP games. Kakko, at 6’3 207 pounds, has recorded 38 points (22G, 16A) in 45 Liiga games. Jack Hughes sports elite talent, production, and hockey IQ. His small frame won’t be a big issue in the new age NHL. Kakko certainly offers a different set of skills than Hughes and at 6’3, 207lbs he is physical, has an elite shot, and is intense in the defensive and offensive zone.

Tune in 8 pm EST on NBC Sports to see the results!
