Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank You Next’ music video, which dropped on November 30, was an overnight sensation. The song broke the Youtube record for most viewed video in under 24h of release, with a whopping 46million views, as well as the records for the most viewers watching simultaneously and the most chat messages ever under a video debut. The song is about how Ariana Grande became who she is today, referencing her ex-boyfriends, but instead of taking a dig at them, she surprisingly thanks them.

Other than the meaning behind the lyrics, the music video was what blew up the internet. Grande re-enacts scenes from popular women-driven movies from the early 2000’s, such as Bring It On, Mean Girls and Legally Blonde. There is the scene from the dance from the Winter talent show, the tooth brushing scene, and the scene where Elle Woods pulls up to Harvard. Not only that, Grande also includes many celebrity cameos in some scenes, such as Troye Sivan, Colleen Ballinger, Jonathan Bennett, Jennifer Coolidge and even Kris Jenner.

To Big Sean she wrote, ‘Thought I’de end up with Sean, but he wasn’t a match’. To Ricky Alvarez she wrote, ‘Wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh’. To Pete Davidson she wrote, ‘Even almost got married, and for Pete I’m so thankful’. To Mac Miller she wrote ‘Wish I could say thank you for Malcolm, ‘Cause he was an angel’.
