After starting the season with a big win against Brewster 8-3, the Rye hockey team has high hopes for this year.
They are returning a lot of key players, but what will probably be the biggest test to their success is the influence of all the new young faces. Some of the returning key-players include Declan Lavelle, Emmett Carroll, Alex Noga, Johnny Finnegan, Connor O’Brien, and Danny Fitzgibbons. But one of the biggest changes in the garnets lineup this season is the addition of freshman Anabelle Thomas, who will be holding down the net.
When asked about Thomas’s addition, junior captain Emmett Carroll commented “Shes really young. But she plays like shes a veteran which is really important to have on a team like ours who are hoping to have a really big year”.
Avid Rye Hockey supporter and dedicated fan Johnny Cronin commented that “Their are a bunch of dogs on this team. The seniors will definitely show up this year”.
When asked about this season, senior red-shirt winger Will Chader said “Every day I leave my blood, sweat and tears on the ice. I would die….I would literally die for our goalie whether we’re on or off the ice. But the night I found out I wasn’t a captain I cried myself to sleep. I got over it though, with the comfort and graceful feel of my stick in my bed”.
Overall, the Rye Hockey team has high hopes. They started off strong, but its early in the season. As they keep progressing, the section chip may not seem so our of reach. Make sure you come out to support them this Wednesday for their next game against White Plains at 8pm.
