-Meek Mill’s release from jail

On April 24th Meek Mill was released from jail after serving nearly 6 months.  His conviction was thrown out amid allegations of misconduct from the judge who sentenced him.  Meek left jail and immediately boarded a helicopter and headed to Game 1 of NBA playoff’s to cheer on his hometown Philadelphia 76’ers.  Meek then rang the ceremonial bell to kick off the playoff series which Philadelphia went on to win.  This was a huge moment for the city of Philadelphia and one of the best moments in rap this year.


-Migos vs. Joe Budden

The world got a taste of the clash between young and old stars of rap this year, with upcoming rap group Migos beefing with longtime rapper Joe Budden.  Budden, who has been critical of the current quality of hip hop, called their music ‘mumble rap’ while Migos chose to call Joe Budden some other innapropriate names in their Quality Control track.


-Tekashi69’s Rise and Beef with Multiple Established Names

Brooklyn rapper Tekashi69 has emerged these past few months, starting beef with multiple rappers, including The Game, Cheef Keef, and Trippie Redd.  Tekashi’s combination of aggressive music, questionable background, and crazy look just about irritated everyone in hip hop, both young and old.
