Former FBI director James Comey has a new memoir coming out soon regarding his interactions with President Trump and his eventual firing.  Earlier this week sections of the book leaked online and they revealed some interesting things.  Liberal media outlets immediately seized upon the novel and its purported bombshells regarding Trump. However, upon closer examination, the novel is full of gossip, half-truths, and even information that could have been illegal for Comey to share.  Comey writes that after being fired, John Kelly called him and said that he was going to quit in protest of Comey’s firing.  The problem with this is that not only did John Kelly not quit he was later promoted to White House chief of staff.  This makes it pretty apparent Kelly had no problem with Trump or his handling of the Comey firing.

The information Comey shared in his book could also have been illegal. Section 2.4 of the FBI’S publication review states “FBI employees(The FBI defines an employee as an individual who has or has had a position of trust with the FBI) shall not disclose information that relates to…the substantive merits of any ongoing or open investigation or case.”  The information Comey disclosed in his book in relation to the Trump Russia investigation could fall under this rule.  President Trump responded to the news by tweeting “James Comey is a proven LEAKER and LIAR virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired.  He leaked CLASSIFIED information for which he should be prosecuted.  He lied to Congress under OATH he is a weak and untruthful slimeball who was, as time has proven a terrible director of the FBI.  His handling of the crooked Hillary Clinton case and the events surrounding it will go down as one of the worst “botch jobs” of history.  It was my great honor to fire Jame Comey. “
