Rye needed to find an answer fast. The Garnets looked completely lost in the first quarter. They had given up 3 garbage goals to open the game and found themselves quickly down 3-0. Then, Rye’s offense came alive. Sparked by Billy Chabot scoring 4 of Rye’s first 5 goals, the garnets went on a 10-0 run and never let up on defense. Brendan Lavelle, Davis Ross, Owen Hull, and Pat Langer all had an unbelievable game defensively after a bit of a shaky start. Ross got the “hardhat” symbolizing the player of the game and Langer got the “chains” symbolizing the toughest player of the game. Tommy Decaro added 1 goal and 2 assists and Peter Chabot dominated the faceoff x going 10-12 with an assist. Lavelle locked up Fordham Prep attackman Thomas Marra who came into the game tied for the Section One lead in points with 38 through only 5 games. Marra only had one goal against Rye.

The real story of this game is Rye’s energy. The Garnets were coming off an 8-7 loss to Pelham where the Pelicans were carried by their energy. They just wanted it more. They hustled to every ground-ball and celebrated hard after every goal. This sort of energy was deflating for the Garnets and ultimately propelled Pelham to victory. Because of this, Rye knew their energy had to be off the charts for the Fordham game. Davis Ross especially took it into his own hands to make sure the team was yelling and, at times, overly excited. Rye fed off this energy and, like Pelham a few days before, used this to carry them to victory.

This is a statement win for Rye as many had written them off after the tough loss to Pelham. Davis Ross said, “We knew this was pretty much a must win game for us so we were really hype for this game. This was one of the most fun wins I’ve been a part of it felt really good to bounce back like that.”

Seamus Carroll said, “It was a great team win. Both offensively and defensively I thought we played really well after a shaky first quarter.”
