This week’s athlete of the week is Grant Meyerson, a thrower for the varsity track and field team. This past week he won the league title in weight throw which ranked him as the number one weight thrower in Westchester County. Grant won by more than 4 feet and he placed second for the shot put in the major league meet.

Grant is a member of the Rye High School football, rugby, and track team. He has also been boxing for fun outside of his varsity commitment since he was eight years old. He recently won the New York State Division Three Rugby Championship during his sophomore year and he was a runner-up during his junior year. This past fall season he was named one of the best defensive players of the year for football by MSG Varsity. John Mhilli said, “Grant is always there to make up for someone’s mistake. He’s a great leader and always makes sure everyone knows what they’re doing.”

Before Grant leaves for any of his athletic matches he said he will go up to his dog and hug her as tight as he can and give her a kiss. He said, “She inspires me and motivates me to perform better.” For the past two years, Grant has worked as a lifeguard. He has received Outstanding Achievement awards for English twice, Math, History, and Technology. He will be attending the University of Rochester in the fall of 2018 and will join the Varsity Football roster. Engineering is also an interest that he hopes to pursue during college.
