About The Garnet Mine
The Garnet Mine is the authentic assessment product of the Rye High School class called Web Journalism. The class deals first hand with issues of media, communications, and digital literacy while maintaining a much needed community communications resource. The information on “The Mine” is generated, edited, published, and researched by the students in the class and is updated daily during the first class period.
The name “The Garnet Mine” was formulated by a pair of senior interns from the class of 2016 named Thomas Mechem and Bert Oberlander. For their internship they reported to work daily and created the name, framework, registration, graphics and initial template for the Mine. The current pioneering Web Journalism class is continuing with their work to build a new facet of Rye High School culture.
