Over spring break, my family and I went to the Netherlands for a week and a half. My sister is studying in Rotterdam for a semester, so we thought it would be a good idea to go and see her, along with exploring Amsterdam and Rotterdam. While on our trip we were constantly traveling throughout the cities.
In Amsterdam, we went to the Van Gogh museum, MOCO museum, and Keukenhof. The MOCO museum features work from the artists Banksy and Salvador Dali. Experiencing the culture was amazing. From walking through the red light district, seeing boat houses, and almost getting hit by the extremely aggressive bicycle traffic, I was relieved to see that 9/10 of the menus had English on the back.
We also went to the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam. It provided information all about the history of the Heineken Company and along with just someone talking, they had a sports bar, mini turf area with another bar, and simulator, and taste testing room.
After staying in Amsterdam, we went to Rotterdam. It was about a 40 minute train ride. Rotterdam is much more modern because most of the city was bombed in World War II. It was interesting to see the differences in the cities, especially because they weren’t that far from one another.
