Today, March 3, marks the release of Nintendo’s new system, the Nintendo Switch. The release of this new console has been waited on for months and is one of the most coveted gaming systems since the release of the Nintendo Wii. The new system features a 2 in 1 design, allowing it a traditional console design where you play on the TV, or the ability to take out the center of the console, turning it into a handheld device. Nintendo is known for making a splash with the release of their new consoles, with a steady track record of always making one of the hardest to purchase items of the year. Fans of the new console waited all day and into the night at stores around the country to buy the new system at midnight, leaving it sold out around everywhere. Walmart and Gamestop saved extra consoles for a morning release on the 3rd, but even so fans are lined up for these releases hoping for the chance to be one of the first to get the system. Mr. Dowling has been talking about the new system nonstop, and is very excited to play the new games. Fans like Dowling thought ahead, preordering the system for delivery on release day, allowing them to skip the lines while still getting the system.
For many die hard Nintendo fans like Mr. Dowling, today is like a holiday. The buildup that has lasted months is now available for purchase and fans are able to play the new games that they have waited years for such as Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Bomberman. During an ACT tutoring session, Mr. Dowling went on a tangent about how excited he was, saying “It’s gonna be awesome! I can’t wait.” For anyone hoping to snag a console, it’s a bit late, but still be sure to call your local stores for a chance to find one!
